Anthony Daly: The loser of Galway-Tipp will already have relegation concerns

At times, I find myself scratching my head as to why the GAA continue to keep scoring own-goals. No matter what happens on the hurling fields around the country this weekend, all the main talking points on Monday are going to be around the new football rules, how they went, and what a new game might mean for football’s future.
I have no problem with that. The guardians of the game have been brave enough to overhaul the rules to make football a more attractive and better spectacle. Most of the conversation this weekend should be about football (no I’m not hallucinating). It deserves that focus. So why start the hurling league – a revamped and more exciting version at that – on the same weekend?
