Anthony Daly: Shipping big tallies a serious concern for Ryan and Cork

It doesn’t matter how much Cork score, will that trade-off work if they get to Croke Park? It’s a risky gamble.

I’ve repeatedly made this point and I’ll keep making it until hopefully the penny eventually drops in Croke Park; there are so few hurling games on at this time of the year that it makes absolutely no sense to put two matches on at the same time - irrespective of those games’ status and standing.

As I was watching the Cork-Offaly game on Saturday, I was also trying to keep track of the Laois-Wexford game through the commentary of Liam Spratt and his team on South-East Radio. Liam and the lads were brilliant as usual but it’s still frustrating when there are only seven games left – down to five now – and you have to rely on the radio for updates on one of them. Would that happen in football? I won’t go there because I’ll only go off on another rant.
