I got a call last weekend from a man in Dublin, who got my number from one of the Kilmacud Crokes lads. The man’s partner’s father is unfortunately very sick in hospital in Dublin and as he is a big Clare hurling fan they felt a signed jersey from the current squad would give him a lift.

I asked one of the Clare selectors, clubmate Ken Ralph, if he could arrange it if I dropped him the jersey. Since I was driving to meet the man in the Barrack Obama Plaza in Moneygall later that night, Ken said to call to Caherlohan, where Clare were training, around 5.30. The session wasn’t starting until 6.30 but the car park was full by the time I pulled in the gate (people don’t honestly know the sacrifices these boys give their counties).
