John Fogarty: GAA must be brave to stop €40m runaway train

John Fogarty is the Irish Examiner’s GAA correspondent, with unique insights into the action on the pitch and in the Gaelic games’ corridors of power.

This Thursday, GAA director general Tom Ryan delivers his sixth annual report. In it, he will be expected to again address the out-of-control costs of preparing inter-county teams.

In his 2020 report analysing the previous year when total expenditure touched €30 million, he wrote: “This was an increase of 11.6% over the previous year, a trend that simply cannot continue.
