EIGHT years ago, GAA president-elect Jarlath Burns declared “the death of Gaelic football” on Twitter/X in response to a Dublin-Derry Allianz Division 1 game that yielded just 12 points.

Much like another high-profile GAA man Nickey Brennan who too had designs on the Uachtarán’s badge when in 2004 he declared hurling “was dying on its feet”, Burns was attempting to stimulate a debate.
