Sales in Midleton’s Cherrywood development don’t come up too often — in fact James Colbert of Colbert & Co sold this particular home, 3 Cherrywood Heights, to the current owners around eight years ago.

It was a rental for a while and has been nicely spruced up for sale now: “It’s all been freshly painted and the bathroom was redone and there are new appliances included,” Mr Colbert notes.

Viewings started on Tuesday last and there is already an offer of the asking price.

“It’s mainly people from Midleton itself — young families and a couple — who are interested so far. And the two living rooms in this semi-detached home in a cul-de-sac estate have been of particular interest — one of these is especially versatile and could be a fifth bedroom or a home office — or adapted further for multi-generational living.

And more practical details ... there’s a very trim looking utility room off the kitchen, helping keep the main living areas feeling uncluttered and airy; and there’s parking room on the front driveway. The main bedroom has an en suite bathroom.

Cherrywood is up ‘above the town’ but is still only a five-minute walk from the main street. And there’s access to the popular 25-hectare Ballyannan Woods via a footbridge at the bottom of the hill. This intriguing forest appears as woodland on old maps as far back as the mid-17th century.

Meanwhile, back at home, the back garden, with a shed, faces east so that’s the place to be for an early morning al fresco smoothie. And at weekends you’ll have to get up and out and visit the famous Midleton Farmers Market which has been running for around quarter of a century now.

There are primary and secondary school options, including a Gaelscoil, within a kilometre which is part of the appeal for families.

Cork city is around a 25-minute drive away, and there’s a regular commuter rail service from Midleton to Kent Station in the city which takes around 23 minutes.

VERDICT: A good-sized family home not too far from the centre of Midleton — and regular rail transport is the cherry on top.
