YOU’LL have to move fast for a chance to buy Brewery House, a superbly re-imagined 1970s bungalow where quality is king. Within a day of its market launch, it had clocked up more than 80,000 views on social media.

The current owners bought it six years ago, and they took the Cloyne house apart and put it back together with a great deal of rigour and aplomb.

The brass tacks of the renovation are as follows: New insulation, new radiators, new skirting boards and architraves, new internal doors and a new boiler. A new water-filtration system was fitted; they installed electric gates at the entrance to the generous driveway and new Palladio doors were hung, front and rear.

Having prettied up the 115 sq m, three-bedroom bungalow so substantially, it would have been a shame to neglect the garden, so they made admirably good work of that, too.

A sunken patio, with warm, feature, red-brick and attractive outdoor downlights is as professional a job as you’d see on a garden makeover series on television.

You’d wonder why a regular, 1970s bungalow was given the name Brewery House, but on this, the owner can shed some light.

It’s linked to the time an RIC Barracks was located nearby on Church St, in Cloyne village.

“A long time ago, soldiers were based across the road and they had a home-made brewery at the back field of our house. That’s what the old school master told me a few years ago,” the owner says.

No doubt a few beers were badly needed after the barracks was attacked by Irish Army volunteers in 1920 and set on fire, forcing its occupants to evacuate the building, which still stands.

Things have moved on a good bit in the last 100 years, and while the nearest brewery to Cloyne is now in Youghal, the good news is that a new greenway links the two. You have to cycle a few kilometres to access it at Mogeely, but, after that, it’s plain cycling all the way.

If the 15km pedal to Youghal feels too long, there are outdoorsy things to do on the many beaches close to Cloyne village, such as Ballycroneen, Inch, and Garryvoe.

Foodies will appreciate being in the neighbourhood of Ballymaloe House, less than a five-minute drive away.

Kyle Kennedy, of Kennedy Estate Agents, is selling Brewery House and he says “it has it all”, and is, in his opinion, “going to appeal to everyone”. He could be right, given the storm of interest on social media.

Mr Kennedy said first-time buyers will like the “good price point” (guide is €375,000) for Brewery House, while those looking for countryside living with a village feel will love it.

“Even though it’s set within a village, it’s within walking distance of literally everything: Schools, shops, bars, and restaurants. It feels like you are in the middle of the countryside when you are in the back garden, with all the privacy of the hedging and trees,” Mr Kennedy says.

It is the kind of home a downsizer would love, too: Everything on the level, everything ready to go, and a wonderful, 0.27-acre garden, with numerous seating spots to enjoy.

It comes with a feature Liscannor stone front porch, a detached, fully-powered garage and a floored attic, accessed by a Stira.

Cloyne is about 30km east of Cork City and 8km from the busy town of Midleton. The energy rating at Brewery House is a C2.

VERDICT: Top-class renovation job, inside and out. Competition will be fierce.
