How can I make the Fair Deal application process work for my family?

The Fair Deal Scheme, officially called the Nursing Homes Support Scheme, helps make long-term nursing home care more affordable.

Why does the house need to be valued? How exactly does the Fair Deal Scheme work? What happens if we decide to sell or rent the property while he’s in care? And are there any options to defer the contribution if we’re not ready to sell?
