THE late Manfred Wolki designed Edelweiss for his wife Paula and they named it after a pretty flower found in the Alpine regions of his native Germany.

They spent many happy years there, until Manfred passed away last year. The 1700 sq ft house is now too big for Paula and she’s put it on the market.
She’s sad to do so, recalling how meticulous Manfred was about its upkeep.
“He was a very handy man. He built the electric gates out front and he built the electric gates also for IFI, where he worked.
“He was meticulous about everything. If you look at our hotpress, every pipe is labelled so that you know where the water is coming from and going to,” Paula says.
The 20-year-old detached four-bed is on a quiet avenue in Mount Crozier, where the view at the end of the avenue is out over the harbour.

The neighbours know one another and Paula says it’s a great place to live. She’s from Dublin originally, but followed her sister to Cobh.
Her home is up the hill off Bishop’s Street, beyond a secondary school and near a primary school. It’s near a leisure centre too and a tennis club and soccer pitch. A bus stop for the regular Cobh Connects bus service is five minutes from the house.

“I never drive now, I get the bus all of the time,” Paula says. That said, there’s space in her driveway for two/three cars.
Edelweiss has been well-cared for and had a number of recent upgrades, including new front and rear doors, new French doors off the spacious open-plan kitchen/dining/lounge area, two new showers (one in the downstairs en suite, one double shower in the main upstairs bathroom), and solar panels on the roof.

The solar panels heat the water. The French doors open into a west-facing rear garden and patio.

Selling €440,000 Edelweiss is Johanna Murphy of Johanna Murphy & Sons and she says it’s ideal for a family or for downsizers, given its convenience to Cobh town centre.

“You’ve a lot of people downsizing from very big homes in Cobh and Edelweiss is a nice size with a low maintenance garden,” Ms Murphy says.
It also has a ground-floor en suite bedroom, with another three bedrooms and the main bathroom overhead.

Additionally there's a downstairs utility, a guest WC and a living room.

Outside, there’s a detached garage “perfect for conversion into a gym, office or workshop”, Ms Murphy says.

The energy rating at Edelweiss is B3, so buyers will qualify for more competitive mortgage rates.
Would suit a family or downsizers.
