IT would be easy to dismiss this mid-1980s bungalow as nothing to write home about, but that would be a mistake.

Sure, it looks a bit dated externally, but it’s crisp and contemporary inside, particularly the L-shaped living/dining area, where large picture windows overlook Cork Harbour and the surrounding coastline.

It’s a delightfully bright room, where natural light levels are boosted by glass sliding doors that open to a sunroom at the back of the house, looking up over a large and sloping lawn.

The garden is another reason to take a closer look. The house, called Hillside, is on half an acre, mainly lawn, but with patio areas around the house and hedging and trees providing screening around the perimeter.

The house and half acre are on the market for €340,000, which is probably why selling agent Adrianna Hegarty of Hegarty Property is seeing “massive” interest. House hunters looking to move out of semi-ds in estates in Midleton will get good bang for their buck at this Aghada property. They will also have room to expand, with planning permission, if 113 sq m isn’t big enough for their needs.

Ms Hegarty says there’s good privacy at Hillside, thanks to the planting, and excellent views from both front and rear gardens, from where you can see the water.

The bungalow is between the villages of Aghada and Whitegate, not far from Rosie’s Bar and Restaurant, while the “People’s Path” a waterside walkway, connects Rostellan to Whitegate. Water activities are popular in the locality, and there’s a selection of clubs like Lower Aghada Tennis & Sailing Club and Corkbeg Pitch and Putt. Beaches are plentiful too, such as Whitebay, Inch Strand & Guileen.

Families of school-going kids will find primary schools in Aghada, Whitegate & Saleen, while the market town of Midleton, where there’s a selection of secondary schools, is less than 10 minutes by car.

Ms Hegarty says a good mix of home hunters are booked in to view Hillside, the majority of whom are buying for the second time. Overseas interest has been noted too.

Accommodation at Hillside includes sitting/dining room, kitchen with pantry, three bedrooms, a guest WC and a shower room.

VERDICT: Will suit a variety of buyers, from downsizers, to first time buyers, to families trading out of estates.
