Garden Digest: Autumn events for your calendar

  • Bantry Flower & Garden Club’s next meeting takes place on Monday, September 2, at 8pm. The garden talk will be delivered by Colman Power, Waterford, on organic growing and benefits. Hort. “A” 1 Head of Hydrangea and Hort “B” Last Rose of Summer. All are welcome.
  • Cobh Flower and Horticulture Club will hold its next meeting on Monday, September 2 in Cobh Community Centre at 7pm. A floral demonstration will be given by Rose Hickey titled “Autumn Glory”.
  • East Cork Flower Club meets on Monday, September 2 at 7.30pm in St John The Baptist NS, Dungourney Road, Midleton. P25 PO28. Guest Speaker is food entrepreneur and founder of BKultured Niamh Hegarty who will talk about meditation, gut health and diet. If you wish to join the Flower Club for the year, the fee is €35. Visitors are welcome on the night. Entry €7. Light Refreshments will be served.
  • Fermoy Flower and Garden Club will host Nora Gallagher of Aoifa to give a demonstration titled 'Autumn Abundance' in the Adair Hall at 8pm on Tuesday, September 3. All welcome, visitors €10.
  • Kanturk Flower and Garden Club will meet on Wednesday, September 4, in the Temperance Hall Strand Street, Kanturk (next to Alley Bar) at 8pm. Guest speaker is garden designer Shane Murphy from Lavender Landscapes, Ovens, Co Cork, who will talk on ‘designing your garden in tune with your lifestyle needs’. Everyone welcome. Refreshments served. Entry €5.
  • The Annual ISNA Autumn Plant Fair will be held on Sunday, September 8 at Fota House and Gardens. The show runs from 11am to 4pm. There will be many of the specialist nurseries in attendance.
  • Macroom Flower & Garden will host a teaching demonstration by Breda Crowley AOIFA on Thursday, September 12 at Coolcower House Macroom P12E135. The event includes a club competition and sales table. Visitors are most welcome. Further details 087-9821708.
  • AOIFA's National Competitions will be held in Wexford from October 4 to 6. Please visit the Association of Irish Floral Artists' website for further details. The club are celebrating 50 years with a Gala Dinner at The Castle Hotel on December 5. Please contact club officers to reserve your ticket.
  • Bord Bia has announced details of the National Organic Awards, which will take place in Dublin on Thursday, October 17. The National Organic Awards, held in association with the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine, celebrate the achievements of the increasing number of organic growers, producers, and manufacturers in the country.
  • The Irish Georgian Society is partnering with Kerry County Council and Cairde Choláiste Íde Teo in Dingle to deliver a one-day seminar, which forms part of Kerry Architecture Festival 2024. The seminar takes place in Coláiste Íde and will explore the designed landscapes and gardens of Kerry, their history and conservation. Speakers include Des Byrne, Dr Vandra Costello, Tom Dillon, Victoria McCarthy, Professor Finola O’Kane, Dr David Fleming, and Terence Reeves-Smyth. It takes place on Friday, September 27, from 10am-5pm. The seminar is free; however a charge of €20 applies for lunch (soup and sandwiches with tea/coffee and cake).
