It amounts to dozens of curated books lining shelves, giving insight residents’ reading tastes, although there’s a related trend of buying books by the metre as part of an interior design scheme to give the impression of being well read, even if you are not.

Cultivating a collection of books for the look rather than what I love reading doesn’t sit well with me, a bookworm since I was taught to read at three years old using the then Cork Examiner as my first reader.
