Garden Digest: Events in June for your calendar
- The 55th Cork Scout Group in Carrigaline is organising an Open Garden and Plant Sale event on Saturday and Sunday, June 8 and 9, in the garden of Mrs Eithne Howard at Seamount, Currabinny, Co Cork, P43 CP02. The event includes refreshments and a raffle with Mrs Howard offering gardening advice and tips. Admission is €7 and proceeds will be shared between Cystic Fibrosis and the 55th Cork Scout group.
- The Cobh Flower and Horticulture Club will hold its next meeting on Monday, June 10, in Cobh (Great Island) Community Centre at 7pm. The speaker for the evening will be Mary O’Brien, AOIFA teacher, demonstrator, judge, and NAFAS national judge. The subject will be floral art competition work. There will also be a quiz during the evening.
- A Friends of Marymount is organising an Open Gardens event on Sunday, June 16, from 11am to 5pm. It takes place in the gardens of Noel O'Keeffe, Silverstone, The Rock, Carrigtwohill (T45V089), and Anthony Barry, The Rock, Carrigtwohill (T45KN61).
- The Cork Summer Show takes place on Saturday and Sunday, June 15 and 16. Entries are open for floral art, horticulture, vegetables, farm produce, arts and craft classes plus lots more. There are lots of new classes for 2024. For more details go to www.corksummershow.ie.Â
- Cork Flower Club will meet on Tuesday, June 18, at 7.30pm, in Douglas GAA Club, Douglas West, Cork. It will be the last meeting before the summer break. Jane O’ Dwyer AOIFA will be giving a demonstration titled Fun in the Sun. Visitors welcome. Entry €5.
- Glengarra Flower and Garden Club members visited Dromana House and Gardens in Cappoquin, Co Waterford, on Saturday, May 11. The house is owned by Nicholas and Barbara Grubb. Nicholas took members for an informative stroll through the vast and stunning gardens, which contained a beautiful array of trees and shrubs. Barbara shared information on the history of the house and stories of ancestral connections. The weather was very kind, making the view over the River Blackwater even more spectacular. A wonderful day was had by all. Dromana House is definitely worth a visit.
- Innishannon’s Gardens and Galleries event will be held on the last weekend of this month on Saturday, June 29, and Sunday, June 30. It takes place at the parish hall where you can pick up a map and a €10 pass to cover all venues. A variety of gardens and galleries around the village are within walking distance and you can drive or board a free minibus to see all of these around the parish. Also to be enjoyed are a nature walk in Dromkeen Wood, a history walk of the village and a gramophone recital. Gardens and Galleries is all about relaxing, chatting and waiting for your soul to catch up.
