A first edition of the first Harry Potter book at Hegarty's.

A first edition of the first Harry Potter paperback is estimated to fetch €3,000 when it goes under the hammer in Cork next week.  

The online sale by Hegarty Antiques & Fine Art Auction Rooms in Bandon, Co Cork, from 5pm on Tuesday will feature a first paperback edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone  — one of 5,150 copies in wrappers. 

Both paperback and hardback editions of the JK Rowling work were published on June 26, 1997. This copy is estimated at €3,000.

The sale also offers art by Graham Knuttel and a selection of antique furniture, collectibles and jewellery including contents from Clother House in Kinsale, Co Cork.

Meanwhile, art by Patrick Scott, Frank McKelvey, Charles Brady and Louis le Brocquy will feature in the Christmas Art & Design Auction at deVeres of Dublin. 

The timed online auction which closes on Tuesday, December 12, offers 20th-century pieces by designers like Charles and Ray Eames, Rolf Benz and Fendi.
