Garden Notes: Autumn and winter events

  • The Cork Flower Club is holding their Christmas Gala Demonstration on Tuesday, November 14 in Rochestown Park Hotel at 8pm. Doors open at 7pm. Christine Hughes AOIFA will be giving a demonstration titled "Fairy Lights on Winter Nights". Charities supported are children's charity Barnardos and autism charity As I Am. Refreshments served. Tickets cost €20 and are available on the door or from Sue O'Neill 087 6283737 or Ann Hester 087 6169540.
  • Kanturk Flower and Garden Club will meet on Wednesday, November 1 at 8pm in The Temperance Hall, Strand Street, Kanturk with guest speaker Margaret Naughton, Donaghmore. Margaret will speak on Autumn Colour in the Garden and will also discuss growing dahlias in your garden. Every Welcome and refreshments will be served. Entry €5.
  • The Macroom Flower & Garden Club will host a Gala Charity Floral Demonstration By Janet Maddock AOIFA titled “A Winter Wonderland” on Thursday, November 9 at 8pm. It takes place at Coolcower House Macroom, P12E135 and will support Macroom Community Hospital. For tickets and further details contact 087-9821708. Doors open at 7.15pm.
  • Glenville Flower & Garden Club will meet on Tuesday, October 31 at the Holy Family Centre at 8pm with a very interesting talk by Kathleen Hurley Mullins (Beauty Therapist) on all Beauty and Skin Care for all. Raffle and Halloween Barmbrack to follow. All welcome.
  • Bosco’s Garden Tour takes place on Saturday, October 28, at 11am at its permaculture market gardens, homestead, and food forests. Bosco’s Garden is located in Goslingstown, Kilkenny. It’s a small market garden and food forest established in 2020. It’s run by husband-and-wife team Shane and Kay Hatton, who have a passion for real food and nature.   • Cobh Flower and Horticulture Club are holding their Gala Christmas demonstration by Nora Gallagher entitled “Joy to the World” on Wednesday, November 8 in Cobh GAA Club At 8pm. Tickets are €10 and are available from club members and at the door. Proceeds in aid of National Autism Charity.
  • The Irish Heritage Trust Volunteers at Fota House Arboretum & Gardens, Cork, are harvesting and pruning in the glasshouses and gardens. As the historic house enters its low season, volunteers are working at “putting the house to bed” working on a thorough clean of the rooms and caring for its collections.
