Your guide to Munster gardening events

- GIY Cork will hold its next meeting in the Hydro Farm Allotments Tower/Blarney tomorrow at 7.30pm. This is a meeting especially for beginners who wish to start growing vegetables and salads. There will also be a discussion about what seeds to sow now for planting in the spring. Admission free. Contact Larry 087-951 7517.
- Macroom Flower & Garden Club presents a spring gardening talk at Coolcower House on Thursday, March 12, at 8pm, with a guest speaker from Sweet Magnolia Garden Centre. Club competitions and plants for sale. Annual membership of €35 now due.
- Dungarvan Flower & Garden Club will host an event at the Park Hotel Dungarvan, on Wednesday, March 4, at 8pm, including a talk by Dr Una Fitzpartick, on ‘Simple Ways to Make Your Garden more Pollinator Friendly’, while Maura Curran will discuss ideas to attract pollinators.
- Peter Dowdall will be demonstrating some top design tips tomorrow night, March 3, at the Adair Hall in Fermoy from 8pm. Peter will show us a few simple tips to ensure our planting has that “designed” feel and works with the environment.
- Devonshire Cream Tea will be served for ‘Devonshire Day’ on Mother’s Day — Sunday, March 22 — at Lismore Castle, Co Waterford. Guests can enjoy Devonshire Cream Tea in the Pugin Room and experience a preview tour of Lismore Castle’s Spring Gardens. Tea and tours take place at 11.30am, 12.40pm, 1.50pm, 3pm and 4.10pm.
