The garden at The Water Margin, Templenoe, Kenmare will open from 2-5pm on August 1, 2, 3 (public holiday weekend).

Plants for sale, refreshments available. Donations in aid of Simon Community and St Vincent de Paul. Follow signs on N70 at Templenoe.

The National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin, Dublin, is hosting a tour today of the most fragrant summer flowers including a brief history of perfume, from the rose to the oakmoss lichen, which is valued in perfumery as a fixative base.

Plants do not produce their scent just for our pleasure, but to entice pollinators and give chemical warning signals. Join us and find out how plants use scent to exploit animals to their advantage. Time: 2.30pm. €5 per person. Meet at the Education & Visitor Centre

Waterford gardening fans are in for a treat today with the visit of Dermot O’Neill and Seamus O’Briento Tourin House and Gardens for a Waterford Garden Trail event which will include a guided walk through the beautiful gardens of the history-steeped Jameson family home in Cappoquin, Co Waterford.

The event starts at 11am; with admission at €30 for a day ticket. The fee covers two illustrated talks, a garden tour and light lunch, tea/coffee.
