Blackrock Flower and Garden Club will host DJ Murphy on Tuesday, October 7 for a talk and demonstration at the Ursuline Secondary school at 7.30pm. All welcome.

Innishannon Flower and Garden club will host Aphra Lloyd from Bandon Co-Op garden centre on Wednesday, October 8 at 8pm in Barrett’s Lounge.

Cork GIY meets on Tuesday October 7 at 7.30pm in South Parish Community Centre. The topic is winter gardening with Q&A session. New members welcome. Free event.

Cobh Flower and Horticulture Club will meet in Cobh Community Centre on Monday October 6 at 8pm. DJ Murphy, Bandon Garden Centre will give a talk on “The Garden in Winter”. Plant sale — visitors welcome. Admission €5

Bantry Flower & Garden Club presents Malcom Kitt to give a demonstration on “Wedding Flowers” on Monday, October 6 at 8pm in the Westlodge Hotel. Visitors welcome

Macroom Flower & Garden Club presents a gardening talk by Sarah Evans and Alan Pitcher from The Secret Garden Newmarket on the topic: “Organic Vegetable Growing” and “Autumn in the Garden” on Thursday October 9 at 8pm in Coolcower House. Visitors welcome. Gala floral demonstration by Theresa Collins AOIFA, entitled “Christmas is Coming” will be held on Thursday, November 13.

The Cork Branch of the Irish Wildlife Trust are holding a fund raising afternoon at Tír na Sí in Watergrasshill tomorrow. A wild food walk will be led by Jo Goodyear, a botanist and herbalist and will be followed by a children’s leaf hunt with ecologist and education officer, Lorna O’Mahony. The Irish Garden Plant Society will meet on Tuesday, October 7 at 8pm in SMA Hall, Wilton at 8pm. A lecture on the topic: “Bioprospecting in the Andean Highlands” will be give by by Siva Velivelli – UCC BEES.The Central Andean Highlands are the centre of origin of the potato plant (Solanum tuberosum). Siva will discuss work on the Andean Highlands and his UCC laboratory, and the development of more sustainable growing systems using plant growth-promoting natural microbial resources.
