¦ The AGM of Blarney and District Flower Club takes place in the Community Hall, Whitechurch on Thursday, Jan 23 at 8pm. All welcome.

¦ Bandon Flower Club presents a talk on yoga by Tania Murphy of Fionnuisce, Bandon and a fun night with flowers in The Munster Arms Hotel, Bandon on Monday, Jan 20 at 8pm. Visitors and new members most welcome.

¦ Cork Alpine Hardy Plant Society presents Jim Jermyn, horticultural consultant and show manager for Gardening Scotland and Ayr Flower Show to discuss, “Growing Alpines in their true Character”, on Thursday Jan 23 at 7.45pm, Lavanagh House, Ballintemple, Cork. All Welcome.

¦ Ladysbridge and District Flower and Garden Club will hold its AGM on Monday Jan 20 in Garryvoe Hotel at 8pm. Guest speaker, Lottie West will talk about plants, shrubs and trees, with lots of gardening tips. New members welcome.

¦ The next meeting of the Owenabue Garden and Flower Club, Carigaline, will be held in St Mary’s Church of Ireland Hall, on Monday Jan 27. There will be a talk on “Food matters — the importance of organic food”, after the AGM at approx 8.45 pm.

¦ BBC TV presenter and botanist, James Wong will give a free, public lecture at UCC next week on the topic: “Grow your own way”. And whiles it’s designed for those interested in studying plants, plant science and horticulture, the talk also appeal to the general public, especially those with an interest in the natural world and plants in general.
