Not so pretty poly

WHAT gardener doesn’t dream of owning a large south-facing Victorian-style glasshouse sited against a warm brick wall?

Not so pretty poly

However, the cost of erecting and maintaining a glasshouse can be prohibitively expensive, so food growing fanatics generally opt for a polytunnel instead. Compared to their aesthetically charming cousins, tunnels offer a protected growing space for a lot less money and provide a larger area for growing, if a less attractive appeal.

More space translates into more crops, greater ease of rotation and an alleviation of the pressure to change soil regularly, plant in pots or use grow-bags, which in turn alleviates the time and resources spent watering and feeding.
