How to use velvet to elevate any room

Velvet has the knack of elevating your surroundings no matter how dated or shabby your décor, and in a way that makes me wonder why we abandoned it in the first place.

Maybe it was its characteristic heaviness that overwhelmed our surroundings or the irksome task of trying, and usually failing, to remove stains from it successfully. Then again it may have simply fallen victim to the fickleness of fashion, as everything does eventually.

But it’s back — and as the evenings close in we’ll appreciate its warmth and luxury whether we’re applying it as upholstery or as a friendly cushion.
