The increase in the cap for the First Home scheme in Cork county from €425,000 to €450,000 in July has been a very welcome development, say property commentators.

The First Homes Scheme has been a game-changer for the first-time buyer since it was introduced three years ago.  

The Government’s shared equity scheme is really an old idea that was put away and taken out again with a shiny new label (for those that remember the Council home loans of the past), but there’s no doubt that it has made a significant difference, making the unaffordable suddenly affordable.
