Home with a renewed sunny disposition in Douglas Village

Douglas Village, Cork - €380,000

Size: 122 sq m (1,310 sq ft)

Bedrooms: 3

Bathrooms: 2

ALL done up in the past three years, and extended too, since it last sold as a doe-er up, is Árd na Gréine, in what’s almost a hideaway park in the heart of Cork’s Douglas village.

The single-storey bungalow, now with attached side garage converted and its front garden opened up for parking, is in the block-shaped cul de sac of Douglas Lawn, 250 metres from the Fingerpost, near the church and old bridge by the start of Carrs Hill and also near Maryborough Hill.

It’s fresh-looking inside and out, and is fresh to market with estate agent Jeremy Murphy who guides the now-1,300 sq ft three-bed, two-bath home at €380,000.

It last sold in 2014, in a more original state (when painted dark blue externally) for €210,000, according to the Price Register.

But it’s a different proposition now, larger too, with bigger porch entrance, re-roofed with a den and overhead Velux, with high-quality new country-style, high-ceilinged kitchen with thick marble worktops and painted wood units, and one of its two redone bathrooms is heated underfloor.

One has a shower, the other has a separate shower and corner bath, and both are extensively tiled.

The living/dining/kitchen is long and largely open-plan, with a feature wood-burning stove set mid-way up a stone-built chimney breast, with log store underneath, and there’s also an open play space.

The occupants also created play spaces outside for children, with climbing frame, treehouse, and trampoline in the back garden, where there’s also an above- standard timber-clad shed.

Jeremy Murphy says it’s an ideal family home, near schools and all amenities, but would-be family buyers may also face competition from traders-down, and from better-off first-time Buyers too.

VERDICT: Sunny disposition at Árd na Gréine.
