Trading-up: vendors swap the decks in record deal

SWABBING the decks is a nautical term of yore, but swapping the decks is a new phenomenon on the Irish property front.

Trading-up: vendors swap the decks in record deal

Not only are the vendors of this Carhue bungalow trading up to a bigger home, they are also upping the deck space in their new home: they are upping sticks, having paid probably the highest price yet for a modern home in or around Clonakilty, close to €600,000, for a stone-faced large house with dramatic sited deck at Ard Alainn, an upmarket scheme of 12 large detached homes a mile from the West Cork town.

The sale just closed recently on Revsudden, sold by Henry O’Leary Property Partners, which went up for sale in mid-April with a 550,000-plus price tag and found new owners within a month. Although unconfirmed, it is understood the sale price was just a shade short of 600,000, for a high quality home of 3,200 sq ft with a deck perched overlooking a river valley.
