Five-fold increase shows how values have soared

WHEN first built back in the late 1970s, the family home 9 Janeville just of the Blackrock Road “was the dearest new house in Cork at the time,” says estate agent Brian Olden of Lisney.

The house, occupied by the same family from day one, was bought for c£72,000, its owners recall. (For comparison, a three-bed semi at the time could have been bought for £20,000 to £25,000.)

Now, a quarter of a century later, it hits the market with a €675,000-plus price tag showing nearly a seven-fold increase.
