LOTS of old world features jostle with contemporary design touches in this small, but well-formed house at Leeview Place in Cork city’s Sunday’s Well.

Sitting pretty in this hillside perch with city charms at your beck ’n call

While Sunday’s Well is noted for its grand houses, it has clutches and clusters of smaller old homes as well - and Number 2, Leeview Place, fits into this latter category.

This warm home is located off a busy road through this residential area, with pedestrian access only, though the main road is only a few yards away. The cul de sac status gives it privacy, but it means if you are a car driver, you’ll have to jostle for parking space each day.

The house itself, on the market with agent Tim Sullivan with a €275,000-plus price guide, has compensations aplenty for this parking hiccup.

Number 2 has that old world feel beginning with exposed brick walls in the hallway. The front living room has a southerly aspect, and white marble and cast iron fireplace. Behind, and linked via stripped pine double doors, is a kitchen cum breakfast room, with mahogany units, a pantry alongside and a fireplace. To the back of the house is the main bathroom, with shower and an old Aga burner as an unusual interloper for a wash room.

The first floor return has a study or optional third bedroom, relatively compact and L-shaped with tiled en suite bathroom/shower room featuring mosaic tiling and a glass block partition.

The first floor proper has two bedrooms, one 18’ by 12’, and each room has an old style fireplace.

There’s a good stretch of lawn to the front of this city pad, with a narrow enclosed patio/courtyard at the rear with whitewashed walls to maximise the light.

For creature comforts, there’s gas central heating and windows in front have been replaced as has the front door.

While an old house like this will always need a bit of ongoing spending, the bulk of work such as an amount of re-tiling has been done. Older features include window shutters, old wood floors in some rooms, cornicing and attractive fireplaces.
