As people flock to the cinemas, I urge us to remember the human impact of Robert Oppenheimer’s work, along with that of Albert Einstein, which culminated in the development of the first weapons of mass destruction with the capacity to wipe out civilisation in a single act.
This weekend, we will commemorate the annihilation of hundreds of thousands of the people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which was a direct result of Oppenheimer’s work stemming from the secret, military-funded Manhattan Project.
