Irish Examiner view: McGregor presidential election circus heads to Kildare and Dublin

The former UFC fighter has long talked up his ambitions but so far has fallen short in terms of being able to act on them

The presidential nomination campaigns haven’t quite ignited the public imagination, but the pitches to councils for support will catch the eye today, largely because of Conor McGregor’s appearance before the councils in Kildare and Dublin City.

That local authority is only one of those meeting to decide on whether to back a candidate. It won’t be McGregor’s first stop either — he will address Kildare County Council before travelling to Dublin City Council.
