Protect they ways we find truth: We require more not less transparency

It is not coincidental that demagogues silence the voices, the institutions — and standards — that challenge them. President Trump has weaponised his “fake news” accusations to undermine those who point to his many weaknesses but he has not yet, as so many others have, jailed journalists or those who use social media to criticise him but then he has no need to.
His message is disruption and if that means accusing others of what he is guilty of himself — lying as easily as he breathes — then so be it. He also realises that jailing journalists would be counterproductive; it would sideline a punchbag prop from the hate-spewing Vaudeville he offers as political campaigning.
