A very good idea - Spreading joy in public spaces

Utilitarian public spaces, indoor spaces especially, can often be grey, forbidding, and all too cold. They don’t always easily contribute to the gaiety of the nation. But what a joy, what a spirit-lifting occasion it can be when they do — especially if measures have been deliberately put in place to encourage spontaneous happiness and shared pleasures.

This past weekend Waterford man David Flynn and his 20-strong stag party came across a piano in London’s Tottenham Court Road Underground Station and put it to good very use. Not only did they enjoy themselves immensely, but their rendition of Elton John’s hit ‘Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me’, visibly changed the day for the better for many other commuters using the grim station environment.
