Fighting cancer: Kickstart health

Anyone contemplating making some new year resolutions would do well to heed the advice of the Irish Cancer Society which today is urging is people to make simple lifestyle changes in 2018 to significantly lower their risk of cancer.
According to the ICS, four out of 10 cancer cases are preventable by making a number of lifestyle changes recommended in the European Code Against Cancer. Giving up smoking is the most obvious way of preventing cancer but there are other activities, too, that lead to a healthier and longer live. These include tackling obesity, excessive alcohol consumption and resolving to be more phyisically active...
Pointing out that most Irish adults are overweight, the society’s cancer prevention manager, Kevin O’Hagan, says: “Being active and having a healthy diet also contributes to maintaining a healthy weight, which after not smoking, is the most important thing you can do for cancer prevention.”
That doesn’t necessarily mean spending money to join a gym. Taking a brisk walk costs nothing and could make all the difference in ensuring a healthier 2018.
