It might be considered that Fianna Fáil TD GV Wright’s political star had lost much of its lustre in the wake of his involvement in a serious traffic accident, as a result of which it has been alleged he was guilty of drink driving.

Yesterday’s claims by disgraced lobbyist Frank Dunlop to the Planning Tribunal that the TD accepted £2,000 from him to help with rezoning a parcel of agricultural land, will not do anything to repair his tarnished reputation his electorate.

Mr Wright, who was a Senator and Dublin County Councillor, at the time of this allegation, has denied receiving such a payment, but admits to a political donation of £3,000 from Mr Dunlop.
