Consultants’ dispute - Elitist group holds patients to ransom

HOSPITAL consultants have only themselves to blame for the widely-held perception that they are indifferent to the plight of public patients.

That is the inescapable conclusion to be drawn from a looming strike scenario in which beleaguered members of the public will be used as pawns in a dispute between consultants and the Government over the vexed issue of medical negligence insurance.

No matter how they may strive to justify their forthcoming industrial action, it is unconscionable that members of a powerful, moneyed and elitist group should hold people’s health and well-being to ransom for their own selfish ends. It goes against everything the medical profession represents.
