Government inaction deplorable

It is an example of breathtaking ineptitude on the part of the Government that it should allow a situation to fester within An Post which may ultimately result in the loss of 1,500 jobs there.

Government inaction deplorable

With the prospect of an incredible €50 million loss, how the €27,000 performance-related bonus was given to former chief executive John Hynes defeats understanding. While the average postman’s wage is €354 per week, Mr Hynes enjoyed the comfortable salary of €255,000 before he retired earlier this year.

As the 1,500 staff in question ponder their doubtful future, it must be with understandable anger that they may recall his parting remarks in a circular. He said that An Post was in good shape as he left and he was full of hope for the future of all the staff.
