Quota restrictions - Time to act to preserve fish stocks

TRENCHANT criticism of Ireland’s threat to commercial fish stocks and the Atlantic salmon are again being levelled at the Government.

In the EU club, we now rank with Spain as having the worst records for exceeding agreed fishing limits and for monitoring European fishing quota restrictions.

Ironically, over-fishing militates against the interests of fishermen. The more fish caught, the harder it is to make a living because the greater the decline in stocks.
