The resolute approach by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern in pursuing the process of the impeachment of Judge Brian Curtin, unswayed by a development which could have deferred it, is in the public interest.

That development was a letter from his solicitors denying any impropriety on his part and alluded to a psychiatric disorder he suffers from, making it difficult for his lawyers to take instructions.

It also asked for sight of any motion that would be put to the Oireachtas setting up a committee to inquire into the judge’s behaviour.
