A E231m taxpayer’s nightmare

The cost of the Health Payroll System, estimated at E8.8 million when the scheme was initiated in 1998, has not overrun by more than 25 times the original prediction.

The latest estimate is that it will cost E231 million to implement. Already this year there were reports that one employee was mistakenly paid E1 million.

Fortunately that person had the honesty to report the mistake. The public will be wondering if a similar profligacy could be responsible for the outrageous overruns.
