It was insensitive on the part of Taoiseach Bertie Ahern to decide not to take one day out of his holidays in Donegal and cross the Border to attend the ceremony in Omagh to mark the fifth anniversary of the horrendous terrorist attack which killed 29 people.

It was the last time for five years that such a public ceremony will be held, and it would have been appropriate for him to attend.

The massive car bomb attack carried out by the Real IRA was the worst single terrorist attack perpetrated in Northern Ireland and nobody has ever been prosecuted for it.
