EU constitution - Debate will help shape the future

As political leaders throughout Europe today reeled from the ambush of the French resistance to the proposed EU constitution, eyes were being cast nervously towards Holland where tomorrow’s referendum could return a similar outcome.

Despite the fact that the French ambush was well-signalled in poll after poll before Sunday’s referendum, the outcome was as devastating as it was decisive with no room left for Brussels to equivocate as to its import.

And that import is to stop the reform and expansion of the EU in its tracks.
