Capital of Culture - Cork should take pride in culture crown
After all the recriminations over the failure to communicate with the public, it is appropriate to reflect on the positive potential of a year when Cork emulates the distinction of past cities of culture, ranging from Copenhagen to Madrid, Helsinki and Prague.
Despite today’s wintry forecast, there will be a warm sense of pride in the air tonight. Regrettably, for security reasons, only 26,000 spectators will line the city quays for what promises to be a spectacular show of fireworks and magic on the Lee. This is a time for the people of Cork to tell the world all that is best about their fine city and its vibrant culture.
