Budget cuts threaten to become fatal

THE slow drip of cuts in the health service is beginning to impact on patients and especially people within the disabled community.

In an inexorable process of erosion, cutbacks range from medical cards to residential places for disabled adults who have no family members to care for them.

Broadly speaking, cuts are biting ever deeper into hospital budgets, forcing bed closures and threatening such vital services as kidney dialysis units.
