THE dramatic twist at yesterday’s session of the planning tribunal graphically illustrated the potential for embarrassment arising from chairman Alan Mahon’s tax settlement with the Revenue Commissioners.

As predicted here, the tax revelation gave former Fianna Fáil Deputy Liam Lawlor, whose financial affairs are currently under the microscope, ammunition to fire at Judge Mahon.

Not a man to miss such an opportunity, Mr Lawlor queried the chairman’s ability to retain an unbiased position at the tribunal, given his own brush with the taxman.
