People need to know basis for SARS ban

Dr Joe Barry, President of the Irish Medical Organisation, suggested the announcement effectively banning competitors from five SARS-infected countries in Asia from taking part in the Special Olympics was illogical and discriminatory.

He suggested a different decision would have been taken if striking doctors had taken part in the advisory process.

This was disputed by a spokesperson for the Department of Health, who pointed out that three public health specialists were part of the advisory committee.
