Child pornography - A disturbing rise in online content

MINISTER for Children Brian Lenihan yesterday highlighted a sinister trade which should serve to cause people to intensify their vigilance when using the internet.

It is that the amount of child pornography and other suspect materials detected by Irish internet users has more than doubled and the content is getting more graphic.

His comments came in the light of Hotline, an online watchdog, which reported that the incidence of such material had more than doubled since its last report to 5,102 items.
