LUAS project – Questions over vision of planners

LUAS certainly looked great as it set off yesterday, but its merits must still be considered dubious. Mass transit systems that pride themselves on their efficiency normally do so by emphasising their timeliness.

Unfortunately, the first LUAS tram began rolling ridiculously late.

Former Transport Minister Mary O’Rourke promised that it would be up and running within a year of the last general election. The first tram was, therefore, two years late in going into operation and for everybody’s sake we can only hope that this is not an omen.
