THAT Education Minister Noel Dempsey felt compelled to personally intervene to ensure school placements for 17 secondary students in Limerick is indicative of something fundamentally wrong with the system.

Hopefully, intervention yesterday with the various parties, including school principals, will facilitate an acceptable outcome.

The result of those discussions was that the principals will meet on Thursday to examine the applications and it would be preferable that a solution be found locally, and promptly, than have one imposed.
