Welfare overpayments - Write-off of €17m is unacceptable

IF millions of euro went missing in a commercial operation, heads would roll.

Yet, the Department of Social and Family Affairs has written off nearly €17 million in overpayments which vanished without trace.

This money is part of approximately €67m overpaid to welfare recipients in the last two years due to a combination of fraud, error and misinformation.
