The Greek island of Lesbos has been a transit point for hundreds of thousands of refugees and asylum seekers. Moria refugee camp is a former detention centre with capacity for less than 3,000 people. At present, the camp has more than 20,000 inhabitants, almost half of those children, living in limbo in conditions that are referred to as a humanitarian catastrophe. In recent weeks, inhabitants protesting at the conditions in the camp have been tear-gassed and some physically assaulted.
