SAVINGS clawed back from early retirement packages for public service workers are “questionable” and may only amount to a third of the gross cost of a full time post, a critical report on the health sector argues.

The Public Accounts Committee report, obtained by the Irish Examiner, says that potential savings for each person retiring early are actually only a fraction of the post’s costs when pension and lump sum payments are accounted for.
