Uncertain age is a concern for us all

Key supports for elderly people under threat from the IMF, says Eamon Timmins

“WE live in an age of uncertainty, where nothing remains the same and where supports which we depend on today to get by, could be gone in the morning. It isn’t easy.”

That’s how an older lady from Co Tipperary summed up the current situation when questioned at Age Action’s recent AGM in Croke Park. In the last 36 hours, that situation got markedly worse, with the IMF suggesting that a tranche of some of the most vital supports for older people in Ireland be reviewed or means-tested.
